FUMIGATION OF WOOD PACKAGING TO JAPAN
We would like to advise you of a new regulation that will be implemented in Japan, for all shipments arriving in Japan as from April 1st 2007.
This new regulation indicates that:
- All wooden packaging material must be bark-free.
- All wooden packaging material must be subject to a specific quarantine treatment, such as Heat Treatment or Fumigation.
- For every shipment that enters Japan on or after April 1st 2007, a PSC certificate (Phyto Sanitary Certificate) issued and approved by the Government Quarantine Authority of the export country is required.
- Qualified fumigation should be marked and/or labelled on the packing showing place, name and details of the processing agent.
- For Non-Wooden packing, each exporter should provide a Non-Wooden Packing Statement.
It is the consignee who has to submit the required documents to the Japanese Authorities, who will perform the necessary inspections. If the Japanese Authorities judge that the documents do not meet their requirements, cargo will not be allowed to be imported into Japan and will be returned to the origin.
Please note that it is not possible to organise a fumigation in Japan.
