FUMIGATION OF WOOD PACKAGING TO SOUTH AFRICA
SAAFF – KZN have been advised that South Africa will implement the requirements of the International Standard on Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) no 15, "Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade" from the 1st of January 2005.
This implies that all wood packaging material entering SA will have to be treated and marked in accordance with the requirements of the ISPM. South Africa will then also have to comply with the ISPM by ensuring that all wood packaging material being used for export is treated and marked according to the ISPM requirements.
“Wood Packaging material used in supporting, protecting or carrying a commodity includes, inter alia, cases, crating, dunnage, wooden drums, load boards, packing blocks, pallets, pallet collars, and skids excluding plywood, particle board, orientated strand board and veneer.
